About QUIC

QUIC LogoWelcome to the Qualitative Inquiry Collaborative (QUIC) at Northern Illinois University!

QUIC is a cross-disciplinary working group at Northern Illinois University that seeks to advance social science research methods. QUIC’s goals are to promote cross-disciplinary dialogue among NIU faculty who practice forms of qualitative inquiry, to create a transparent network of NIU researchers with whom NIU graduate students can study, and to improve qualitative inquiry at NIU.

Our current QUIC executive committee and membership extends across four NIU colleges, including Education (Departments of Educational Technology, Research and Assessment, and Curriculum and Instruction), Business (Department of Management), Liberal Arts and Sciences (Department of Political Science) and Visual and Performing Arts (School of Art and Design). Our members are also part of various interdisciplinary centers at NIU, including the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and the Center for Nonprofit and NGO Studies.

QUIC hosts a number of events each year at NIU. All are open to students, faculty, and NIU community members interested in exploring qualitative methods. These include our annual Graduate Student Conference in Qualitative Inquiry, held each spring semester.  For details and photos of our past events and information on our next, please see the QUIC events page.

This website also hosts resources for students and faculty interested in qualitative methods, including a list of qualitative methods courses at NIU and recommended reading materials.
